A bit about me
I’m Sophie Pitman, a contemporary artist and illustrator based in Hove, East Sussex. My work celebrates the beauty of animals, nature, and everyday life through bold colours, expressive brushstrokes, and a touch of playful storytelling. Whether I’m painting a bespoke pet portrait, creating a contemporary artwork, or designing illustrated products, my aim is always the same: to bring joy, warmth, and character into people’s lives.
Art has been part of my life since childhood. Inspired by animals, folklore, and the natural world, I went on to study Illustration at the University of Brighton, graduating in 2013. In 2025, I launched Sophie Pitman Studio as a space dedicated to my practice in contemporary painting, illustration, and handcrafted design. Alongside being an artist, I’m also a mother of two young children, who continually remind me of the joy, imagination, and colour I try to capture in my work.
My process
Every artwork I create begins with a hand-drawn sketch, which is then developed into a finished piece. I mainly paint in acrylic, but also work in oil and watercolour when a project calls for it. My Illustration works are refined digitally in Adobe Photoshop, but my process is always rooted in handcraft. I do not use AI in my work, I believe true creativity comes from human imagination, expression, and the imperfections that make each piece unique.
Commissioned pet portraits have become a much-loved part of my practice, allowing me to capture the character and spirit of animals in a meaningful way for their owners. Alongside commissions, I create original paintings, limited edition prints, and illustrated products, all inspired by my love of colour, storytelling, and the natural world. Each piece is unique, thoughtfully made, and infused with the same passion that first drew me to art.
My mission
My mission is simple: to create artwork that feels joyful, authentic, and full of character. My vision is to grow Sophie Pitman Studio into a recognised creative practice in contemporary art and illustration, one that celebrates individuality, craftsmanship, and our connection to the natural world.
